Chaos at Howe Community Park Wounds Four Victims Wounded in Arden-Arcade Sacramento
Sacramento County deputies are investigating a shooting that unfolded Saturday night April 18 at Howe Park at the moment deputies were breaking up an unlawful assembly of a crowd of several hundred.
Before the Gunfire
Deputies initially got calls about the park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Soon after, a second caller reported concerning a potential altercation occurring within the park grounds.
A law enforcement helicopter flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. Despite this, deputies found that a massive group had assembled at the park without any permit or approval.
The Shooting Itself
Officers moved to clear the area by setting up around the park's perimeter and broadcasting over loudspeakers instructing the hundreds present to disperse at once. About 15 minutes were given for the gathering Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 to break up.
It was during this dispersal that upwards of 20 gunshots were fired. The rapid succession of shots sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies wasted no time in searching for victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
When the dust settled, four victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — a group of one female and three male victims all reportedly in their mid to late twenties — were transported to area medical facilities. Medical teams indicated that two victims were in serious condition, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one had injuries classified as minor. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.
Sacramento fire crews also responded and assisted with medical triage the four victims prior to hospital transport.
What Investigators Found
The primary shooting scene appears to have taken place near the Cottage Way corridor close to the Home Depot store on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Investigators recovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were discovered in the iron fence alongside the Home Depot store. The physical evidence suggested that one of the gunmen had been firing southward from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. The store itself was secured under a brief lockdown for a period of time. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives remained on scene well into the night.
Detainees in Solano County
Information relayed through scanner monitoring established that a Kia was pulled over in the Solano County area. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were dispatched to Solano County to pick up those detained for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
